Medical Insurance
Sarah and I have very different needs when it comes to medical insurance. We're basically at opposite ends of the spectrum. Because I've had a lot of health problems that could resurface at any point and need immediate treatment, I feel obliged to carry full coverage. Sarah has been very healthy and doesn't see a big need for carrying a large policy, so she's able to go bare bones (and spend $400 less than I will spend each month).
We will both be covered in case of an accident. It took us a long time and much effort to figure out that regular health insurance covers you in other countries and we made sure that ours covers us even when doing "extreme" activities like rock climbing, scuba diving, canyoning, high-altitude trekking, and just about everything else we're doing on this trip.
The interesting thing about medical attention in other countries is that we'll have to pay for any expenses in cash and then get reimbursed by our insurance carriers here in the states. We are very much hoping that we do not have to be hospitalized while traveling abroad.
