PLANNING Air Travel - Round the World Tickets Getting the RTW ticket was one of the most stressful parts of the planning process. It is an extremely expensive time to be flying around the world and it was quite disappointing for us to learn this. There are only a couple of large-scale international travel agencies (Air Treks and Air Brokers) and it was difficult for us to decide which one to go with. In the end, the prices were very similar and we made our decision based on responsiveness. Our agent at Air Treks was very proactive and responsive to us and we decided to get our tickets from them in the hope that this excellent service will continue as we go along. The advantage of going through a travel agent is that there are so many intricate details to manage and understand and it would have been a full-time job for us to do it ourselves. This disadvantage is that you end up paying more for the tickets. After we purchased our tickets from Air Treks, we learned that we could have saved at least $1200 if we would have done it ourselves. That's heartbreaking. But no regrets. We made the best decision we could have made at the time and I'm sure it will all work out well. But we wouldn't recommend Air Treks to others who are doing a multi-country trip.
